The Reasons

We are writing this blog to document our road trip from Vancouver to Ushuaia. We are leaving in July 2013 and hope to arrive in Ushuaia before Christmas.

Frequently asked questions…

Why start in Vancouver? Because it’s the only place in Canada worth visiting.*

Why end in Ushuaia? Because it’s the end of the world and the beginning of everything.

Why by car? Because you can drive the entire distance. **

What route will you follow? We will follow the Panamerican Highway where possible, but we will definitely make detours for the Yucatan peninsula (Mexico) and Machu Picchu (Peru)

Have you done anything like this before? No. We’ve driven by car from Firenze to Göteborg and from  London to Cracow in the past, but we’ve always stayed in nice (well, decent) hotels. I’ve never been camping.

* That’s not true. However, when visiting Marc & Marisa in Toronto, Ottowa and Montréal over the years, I have learned that this is how the Lonely Planet travel guide defines Canada.

** Again, not really true. You cannot drive from Panama to Columbia even though it looks like it’s possible on the map.
